Watoto Wasoka (2019)

Uganda
2019-2021

In brief

Watoto Wasoka uses ‘Football 4 WASH’ as the core of the change model. Through big events and football games they share the ideas of health education on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH); Watoto Wasoka also trains teachers and coaches in schools and communities, these in turn take the lead of the programme in their schools and communities.

Problem to be tackled

Watoto Wasoka uses football to change lives of slum children for the better, football as a vehicle for positive change in the lives of slum children in Uganda including life-changing opportunities for education, youth empowerment and health education.

Local partner

Watoto Wasoka implements the project which includes trainings for coaches and teachers, workshops on ‘Football 4 WASH’ methodology, a development symposium in Kampala or tournaments for boys and girls.

Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries are registered members of Watoto Wasoko’s on-going programmes. They are selected through their communities and registered to take part in the programmes via their various community football teams for children, led and supported by community coaches and the foundation.

The programme itself includes 3’000 children.
